  6. After going through this story I can give following characteristics of language

Languages are many and in each language everything has its unique name

Language can be taught as well as can be learnt just by listening to it and practicing on our own.

Sometimes communication can happen without use of vocal language
    Specially between mother and child😊

Languages can be written and can be taught through pictures.

  8. Story is narrated very beautifully! (Maam it's your voice...)

Language is Social – Language helps to nourish and develop the culture and establishing human relation. In this case it has helped to build strong bond between Sonia and her mother and also help her mother to develop Korean culture, values in Sonia.

Language is learnt – Sonia learnt language from her Mother. Her mother read her stories which helped to improve her vocabulary. Her mother told her the names of different things.

Language is non verbal – Non verbal communication (crying giggled, smiled) Sonia’s mother could understand what Sonia wants without saying. This developed again a strong bond in them.

  10. Characteristics of Language

    Language is Arbitrary:
The choice of a word selected to mean a particular thing or idea is purely arbitrary

    Language is Social:
Because it is a set of conventional communicative signals used by humans for communication in a community which is in a way mean of transmission or exchange of ideas

    Language is Symbolic
Language consists of various sounds, symbols and their grapghological counterparts that are employed to denote some object, occurrences or meanings( gestures, postures, giggling, crying, smiling etc)

    Language is Vocal:
Language is primarily made up of vocal sounds only produced by a physiological articulatory mechanism in human body in the beginning, it appeared as vocal sounds only because writing came much later

    Language is learnt:
No person is born knowing a language he acquires it from the society into which he is born. Language is learnt through efforts, imitation and practice. (Because during childhood Sonia used to imitate her Mother through gesture, facial expressions etc)

According to me ,we all during our childhood days can connect with this story how a mother even without knowing to what we are trying to say she is the only person who clearly knows what we want or trying to speak out

A mother is the one who makes us speak the first word "Mummy" and then it follows gradually when we become familiar with words, writing we try to incorporate the same in future generations and adapt it as per the norms of society
In this way language can be verbal, non verbal as well.
