ReplyDelete1. Yeah I agree to it most of the people wants their pupils to study in english mediums including me.
ReplyDeleteBut what I want for my child is to learn her mother Tongue also.
It is observed that students who study at convey school sometimes they dont know certain words or numbers colors in their own langugae.
We see around these days school going kids or college going kids they will converse in English.
Though India is known for ts multilingualism we are somewhere losing this.
We have to encourage other languages also in school just not to study it but to speak also.
2.Most of the people wants to be in A fields and our education system promotes that.
ReplyDeleteLanguages are there just to fulfill the curriculum.
It's not promoted the way it should be. Unless and until soneone in your family were into literature it is not encouraged to students to take up.
We also fine many teaches teaching englis language but number of teachers teaching Indian languages becoming less.
Apart from French and German other Indian languages other tha state language should be in option for students to take up.
Our education system should take up study of or languages to higher levels.
The twisted format of language observe in text messages is not what taught in school.
ReplyDeletePeople have derived it on their own and they understand it Al's without any training or so. And hence I dont think one has to give it that importance.
But however when you text or mail to someone in professional relationships it should not be in short form language.
ReplyDeleteSome studies show that students understand more content when learning in their first language, compared to studying in English.
When the first language is given preference then there is good communication between teachers and pupils due to the language, learners will be learning from known to unknown, pupils able to understand a given instruction faster, Pupils have a sense of belonging since it is their language that is being used, Reading becomes easier.
ReplyDeleteQ1) 'The most callous violation of the policy directive is the practice of making English the medium of instruction right from the play school stage. This is gradually creating a 'language- less' society around us.'
Yes, unfortunately this is true that we me English language compulsory in Schools for communicating right from playschool. In today’s modern world person who speaks English is seen as educated, sophisticated and gets all the respect from everyone, where as a person who can’t speak fluent English is not treated well. This is the main reason that everyone wants their children to study in English schools. But at the same time, they are forgetting that languages of our country also impart good knowledge and should be respected. I feel we as teachers should encourage students to learn, read and write in Indian languages as well. Communicating in English is important to live in this world but at same time our Indian language should not be ignored. Every child should learn English as well as other languages too. This will help to keep our culture of multilingualism alive.
Q2) 'Since science and technology, engineering and medicine are at the centre of most of our educational endeavours, language education is not getting adequate attention of educational planners, administrators and managers.'
In Indian society a person gets high respect if he/she is from the field of Science and technology, engineering, and medicine. So almost every parent wants their children to take up such profession. Even our education system gives more preference to these fields. It is very sad to see that languages are not given that importance as actually they should have. Languages are just treated as fillers in the education system. Very few parents will encourage their children to take language as their profession. It is always treated as a hobby or part-time work like writing a book or poetry or translator etc. Even in teaching profession since the number of vernacular schools is decreasing so is the demand of teachers teaching other than English is reducing. It is important for our educational planners to give equivalent importance to the study of language.
Q3) 'The language of the SMS's and emails is sometimes shockingly anomalous and defy all orthographic and structural norms of the language. 'Is our language teaching expected to cater to the demands of this twisted format of the new language?
In this techno savvy world of SMS’s and emails the twisted format of language is used quite often. But this language is not taught to anyone. People have adopted for their convenience and also due to peer pressure. Today if you don’t understand this twisted format of language then you are treated as outdated. So, to be able to get well along with society one has to learn and adapt this language. However, in professional scenario we still continue to use correct form of language and not this twisted format.
Languages use sounds, symbols and words to express a meaning, idea, or thought. Language education means teaching and learning a language. It also includes the efforts made by a learner to improve his/her native language. Language education is a branch of applied linguistics.
ReplyDeleteWhen your child first starts going to public school in the U.S., she has a tough task ahead of her. She must learn to read, write, speak and understand English the way it’s used in the classroom. She also has to try to keep up with her English-speaking peers in math, science and other subjects. All while getting used to a new culture.
ReplyDeleteIf your child is struggling more than most, she may face an even bigger obstacle. Her teacher and school may not properly identify what’s causing her difficulty. They may think it’s a lack of English language skills when it’s really learning and thinking differences. Or, just as often, they make the opposite mistake. They may think she has learning and thinking differences when she just doesn’t have English language skills.
Education department minister and managers should try to understand the problem every child is not the same and learning can be rightly done only when there is no pressure on the pupil.
Now a days people use short forms to type SMS here one can not easily understand if the person is not used to such messages
ReplyDeleteOn the other hand when you are sending a professional email it should not contain any slang language or short form

ReplyDeleteQ1) 'The most callous violation of the policy directive is the practice of making English the medium of instruction right from the play school stage. This is gradually creating a 'language- less' society around us.'
ReplyDeleteYes, I agree with the above statement every parents wants their child must study in English medium school. First language of every child must be mother tongue or the religion language. If the state is Hindi speaking then child must learn English. If the state is non- Hindi speaking then child must learn Hindi and English. The child will learn Hindi and English to interact or to communicate with intra-state. inter-state.or with international people.
Q3) 'The language of the SMS's and emails is sometimes shockingly anomalous and defy all orthographic and structural norms of the language.'Is our language teaching expected to cater to the demands of this twisted format of the new language?
ReplyDeleteSMS language and email now-a-day become an informal language.while chatting with family, friends we use short terms or word to express us they understand the short term. Now a day its a trend to use short terms. But in a professional life this may create misunderstanding. We should avoid using the twisted format.
