" the process of seeking and interrupting evidence for use by learning and by teachers to decide where the learner are in relation to them learning where they need to go and how they are going to get there" .

    1. There are five general principles of assessment
This principle refers to the time and cost constraints during the construction and administration of an assessment instrument Meaning that the test should be economical to provide. The format of the test should be simple to understand. Moreover, solving a test should remain within suitable time. It is generally simple to administer. Its assessment procedure should be particular and time-efficient.

      Reliability
The principle of reliability refers to the stability of scores over time and different raters. There are four types of reliability: student-related which can be personal problems, sickness, or fatigue, rater-related which includes bias and subjectivity, test administration-related which is the conditions of test taking process, test-related which is basically related to the nature of a test.

      Validity
Validity refers to the tests that measure what it claims to measure.content validity criterion validity construct validity

      consequential validity face validity Authenticity
The assessment instrument is authentic when it is contextualized, contains natural language and meaningful, relevant, and interesting topic, and replicates real world experiences.

      Washback
This principle refers to the consequence of an assessment on teaching and learning within classrooms. Washback can be positive and negative. Positive washback refers to the desired effects of a test, while negative washback refers to the negative consequences of a test. In order to have positive washback, instructional planning can be used.

  2. Q.3 Difference between Assessment for learning and Assessment of learning.

    Answer :
Assessment is the centre if student's experience. It provides a mean of evaluating student progress and achievement,it drives the activity of the student and therefore their learning.

According to Anne Davies, "Assessment for learning is on going, and requires involvement on the part of the learner in clarifying outcomes, monitoring ongoing learning, collecting evidence, presenting evidence of learning to others."
Assessment for learning is the process of seeking and interpreting evidence for use by learners and their teacher to decide wheres the learners are in their learning, where they need to go and how best to get there.

Assessment of learning assists teachers in using evidence of student learning to assess achievement against outcomes and standards.Sometimes also referred to as summative assessment. Its effectiveness as an opportunity for learning depends on the nature and quality of the feedback.

    1. Assessment of learning checks what has been learned to date whereas assessment for learning checks learning to decide what to do next.

Assessment of learning is designed for those not directly involved in daily learning and teaching eg. Parents and Principal whereas assessment for learning is designed to assists teachers and students.

Assessment of learning is presented in formal report and assessment for learning is used in responding to students work and in-conversation.

Assessment of learning usually summarizes information into marks, scores or grades and assessment for learning usually detailed, specific and descriptive feedback in words and in relation to criteria that has been set.

Assessment of learning compares the students learning with either other students or the standard for class level whereas assessment for learning usually focus on improvement, compared with students previous best and progress toward a standard.

In assessment of learning it is not needed to involve the students but in assessment for learning the person most able to improve the learning who is a student is a must.

    2. Meeting the learning needs of all students is a complex and demanding task for schools. How well students achieve at a school depends on factors such as how well teachers engage with their students, and the relationships schools have with their students’ families and whānau. The assessment of student achievement, or understanding what students know and can do, is fundamental to effective teaching and to students’ learning. Unless teachers know students well and are knowledgeable about their achievements, they cannot be confident that they are meeting the learning needs of their students.
Hence we can conclude that, the difference between assessment of learning and assessment for learning is a matter of function and purpose a matter of 'who' assessment of learning is a way to see what the students can do while assessment for learning is a way to see what the teachers should do in response.

    1. Answer 2.Difference between Formative and Summative Assessment (Cont)

      1) The formative evaluation takes place during the learning process. Not just one time, but several times.
A summative evaluation takes place at the end of learning process. Not during the process, but after it. The evaluation takes place after a course or unit’s completion.

      2) Formative assessments tries to figure out whether a student’s doing well or needs help by monitoring the learning process.
In summative assessments, teacher assign grades. The grades tells whether the student achieved the learning goal or not.

      3) For formative assessment, the purpose is to improve student’s learning. In order to do this teacher needs to be able to give meaningful feedback.
For summative assessment, the purpose is to evaluate student’s achievements.

      4) Formative assessment includes little content areas. For example: 3 formative evaluations of 1 chapter.
Summative assessment includes complete chapters or content areas. For example: just 1 evaluation at the end of a chapter. The lesson material package is much larger now.

      5) Formative assessment considers evaluation as a process. This way, the teacher can see a student grow and guide the student in an upwards direction.
Summative assessment it’s harder for teacher to guide the student in the right direction. The evaluation is already done. That is why Summative assessments or evaluations are considered to be more of a “product”.
