Assessment in teaching learning process refers to the strategies designed to confirm what students knows, demonstrate whether or not they have met curriculum outcomes or the goals of their respective programs or to certify the proficiency and make decisions about students future programs or placements. It is designed to provide evidence of achievement to parents, other educators the students themselves and sometimes to outside groups for example employers, other educational institutions etc

    Functions of Assessments
    1.Classification: Assessment is used to obse5and classify the individuals on the bases of scores obtained by them. Bu evaluation we can classify students into different groups namely talented, gifted, slow learner, under achiever etc and adopt different strategies of teaching according to the need of the different groups

    2. Selection: The function of assessment tools in selection of different fields or courses is to predict the ability of the individual

    3.Prediction of future success: Assessment of academy achievement in one level helps in prediction in achievement at other level

    4:Provides feedback to students: Students get to know about their relative status in terms of achievement
    : Discovering effective teaching strategies: Assessment gives teachers a chance to improve his/her teaching strategies as per the status of measurement of achievement of students

    6:Evaluating the progress of whole Education system: In addition to curriculum development, assessment in education gives data driven grounds to evaluate the worthiness of the whole education system.

    Assessment is an important aspect of the teaching and learning process. Assessment is the part of classroom learning activities and is a continuous process. Students are expected to be more active in the learning process. It is important for the students to know and understand the importance and need of learning and how can they achieve it. The key purpose of assessment in learning process is to improve student’s learning ability and effectiveness of teacher’s teaching. Assessment in learning is a process by which the achievement of the level of required knowledge/skill of student can be measured. It helps to promote effective teaching too. It is important that assessment needs to be strategically planned with the help of systematic collection of information about knowledge /skill students have gained in the process of learning. This information collected needs to be analyse in order to plan strategies to improve the student’s learning. A timely feedback to students is equally important for the improvement of their performance.
